Sambusas!
Sambusas are a fan favorite in my family! I can hardly get them out of the hot oil and into peoples mouths fast enough. So if you’re looking for a delicious addition to your iftar meal, look no further than sambusas. This popular snack, which is similar to samosas, is a favorite in Egypt and other parts of the Arab world, Pakistan, and India. The traditional recipe involves using long, thin sheets of dough shaped like triangles and filled with a variety of tasty ingredients, from ground beef to cheese to veggies and dates.
But if you don’t have access to the traditional sambusa wrappers, don’t worry – you can use uncooked tortillas instead! This is a great option for busy families who don’t have the time to make homemade dough. And the best part is, you can fill your sambusas with whatever you like. Ground beef is a popular filling, but you can also try chicken, cheese, veggies, or even pizza toppings.
To make your sambusas, simply cut your tortillas in half and use a flour paste to seal the edges after filling them with your chosen ingredients. We love a mixture of soft cheese mint and other spices but you can also stuff them with meat, potato or veggies. Be sure not to over-stuff them, as this can make them difficult to seal and more likely to open up during frying. And don’t forget to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate after frying to absorb any excess oil.
Sambusas are a great way to celebrate Ramadan with family and friends. So why not give them a try this year? You won’t be disappointed!
